Social engagement…hört sich besser an, als Vereinsmeier, oder?

Born on 9 Mai 1948 as the son of Professor Dr.h.c. Walter Kroemer in Zweibrücken, Germany. I have been married to wife Erika since 1971 and we have two children.
After completing school at the level of high school certificate, I did a two-year apprenticeship as “Industriekaufmann” [similar to industrial merchant], did military service, and later graduated as Bachelor of Business Administration. Subsequently I became purchasing manager of various large enterprises. Since 2002, I am independently active in the field of public relations and promotion in Namibia. At the same time I run a small publishing enterprise, specialising in colonial publications.
From an early age, I became involved in political and social issues. In the early seventies, I played a crucial role in establishing the international KONTAKT-GROUPS. It was the objective of Ms Jean Jones of the United States Army to increasingly integrate American soldiers into German society and to lead them out of their ghetto isolation. At the time, I was the first German KONTAKT Coordinator of this organization, which soon expanded all over Europe. It was merely a matter of improving human relations between Germans and Americans.
Today, I can proudly say that during those almost 20 years we really “moved mountains”. With all due modesty, I may point out that I recommended Ms Jones for the “Bundesverdienstkreuz” [A special order of merit initiated by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1951 and awarded only by the President in recognition of political, economic, social, and academic achievements]
After having lived in South Africa for three years, we returned to Germany in 1977 where I was immediately re-engaged by KONTAKT. It was a heady, extremely successful period of my life, during which we cooperated closely with the highest American authorities and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since 1987, we live in the Republic of Namibia. Here I have served as a member of the Lions Club “Windhoek Alte Feste” since 1991. Projects concerning the wellbeing of the aged are my particular concern. My largest individual project was the procurement of hospital beds from US-stocks in Germany, with the help of Lions Club Zweibrücken-Pfalz, for the “Susanne Grau Home for the Aged” to a total value of N$ 100,00.00 (one hundred thousand N$). In addition, I established contact with the Lions Club “Gütersloh-Wiedenbrück” in Germany who have supported us most generously since, as well as to Lions Club Rendsburg-Königsthor.
The Lions Club International Foundation through Lions Club Windhoek Alte Feste presented me with their Melvin Jones Fellowship. In appreciation of my services with regard to sport and culture in Namibia, I was awarded the breast star medal by the “Deutschherrenorden”.
As the founder of the annual “International Moto Cross Series", I am involved in motor cycle sports. These events have developed into the largest of their kind on the African continent. Besides being responsible for the selection and signing up of relevant riders, I am also in charge of marketing these Moto Cross races worldwide in specialist journals and on the Internet. On 20 September 2004 I became a honorary member of the Windhoek Moto Cross Club.
I am and was also engaged in carnival activities. In Zweibrücken/Germany, I was a founding member of the “Humoristischer Fasenacht Verein (HFZ)” which in 2004 celebrated its 25th anniversary. Here in Namibia, I actively support the Windhoek Carnival Museum.
After all, I am a “Vereinsmeier”.
