We, the Alte Feste Lions met previous Sunday for our annual Christmas Party at the Sundown Lodge. After some small-talk at the bar, everyone met at 12:30 hours under the Lapa, where Lions-President Hans Gert Röschlau opened the festivities.
Initially, members were honoured for their merits. Lion Karin Collins received the highest decoration the Lions Internaional Foundation in the USA has to offer: the "Melvin Jones Fellow", for 8 years of continuous service. Mrs Collins has especially attended to people with vision- and eye problems. For more than 1.000 underpriviledged Namibians she organised glasses and also got strongly involved in the international project "Sight First". Mrs Collins is a Lion through and through!
Another Lion, Bernd Kroemer, is involved in the Service-Committee for exactly 15 years now, since 1991 and since then he writes newspaper reports on the multifaceted activities of the Alte Feste Lions. He too was awarded with the same "Melvin Jones Fellowship" to honour his commitment.
After the deserved applause, the buffet was opened, where a choice of fine foods awaited the Lions. As always everyone was very pleased with the chef. Then, Peter Schuppler acted as Santa Claus and dealt out the manifold presents from his sack. This got the Lions laughing. Following the dessert, it got more lively, and very harmoniously this annual Christmas Party ended in the late afternoon.
